HOUSE OF EUROPEAN HISTORY EXTENSION
Bruxelles, Belgium , Team member: Ziyi Jia, Advisor: Curtis Roth
We know Museums to usually be iconic figures, memorable and impressive. This characteristic leads to an objective quality in the museums to easily become recognizable even as a black shaped silhouette.
Museum with no face is the idea behind this project. By eliminating the iconic quality of the museum, the individual begins to interact with the space more organically.
The House of European History sits mysteriously on its landscape and is surrounded by blank walls. An opening on each wall with its own unique experience, invites the visitor to step a foot inside and discover the space freely. With no dictated circulation, the individual moves through the museum organically and builds his/her own memory of the museum and not just a figurative memory of its silhouette.
